Origin and history
of Lime

The lime plant is native to Southeast Asia, Persia and Malaysia..

In the tenth century it was introduced in Asia and Egypt and from there it spread to Africa and reached Europe in the twelfth century through the invasions of Spain. Subsequently, Christopher Columbus and his explorers brought the seeds to Mexico, Florida and the islands of the West Indies, where its production continues today. Even the English navigators used the juice of this fruit to stand up to scurvy.

Today it is one of the most common exotic fruits of our gastronomy, which uses it to give an acid touch to culinary elaborations.
